Lady Slipper hiking trail from the North Side. Saturday 12th June 2021
Saturday 12th June 2021
We hike the Lady Slipper from the North Side. Leaving home at 7.35. We meet at the Windfarm where it is possible to have a coffee or a toilet break. We group together and then leave from the Windfarm at 8.40am. And we continue on to the North Side from where we start our hike on the MTO access road. On the trail today: Brenda; Hayley; Janny; Gillian; Sehlon; Loretta and Babalo and Cheryl. We meet the others at the Windfarm: Connie; Giselle and Tremaine; Patricia; Belinda, Sonja and Lila; Gerhard and Linda; Myles; Nomathemba, Zimaasa and Bontle; Unathi; Vuyo, Sasa and Pinky; Wendy and Chris meet at the start; Zoleka and Nomphelo who is on her first hike and it turns out to be too tough so she turns around early in the walk; Thandiswa and Sbulelo; Lee; Scott; Nick, Joshua and Morgan. Rina and Liz meet us on the way. 38 people in total I think
Our first stop is to identify the Slipper of the Lady Slipper. We continue on to the Culturama Turn off and then to the start of the hike. We are able to start hiking at about 9.20am. The first section is on a 3km long uphill walk on the tar MTO Road access to the Radio Masts. We regroup and then onto the Contour pathway leading to the summit of the hike as the highest point known as the Slipper. We take a half hour break for a snack and plenty of pics.
The descent takes us about an hour. There are some uphills on the descent. People are tired and foot weary by the time they get to the bottom where we had left our cars.
We stop over at the Windfarm for a snack lunch and coffee before heading off home for a well earned rest.
