Walking the Beaches of Kini Bay; Seaview; Port Elizabeth

We start hiking from Kini Bay which is a little village near to Seaview in Port Elizabeth.  There are two groups -- "Long Walk" and "Short Walkers".  There is really not much difference but the Short Walkers feel comfortable to take it a little easier.
The Long Walking group leaves at 9am and is led by Caren (White hat) and Alan who is a regular leader but today is co leader.  We start off with 18 in our group however a two of the walkers are feeling the heat and so stop early waiting for the Short Walking group to catch up.  Then another four from our group stop at Lories Bay -- Also waiting for the Short Walkers as they will turn around here.  I think that the cool sea water was also an attraction at this beach.

We walk to a small cove where there are some rocks to sit and rest.  Our out walk is about an hour.  Now we are just 12 in the group.  We stop for a snack (Banana; Orange or health bar) and some water before turning around to walk back to Kini Bay.
This morning the temperature is probably around 25 degree C and we feel the heat.  There is, thankfully, a cool easterly breeze.  Two 500mil bottles of water are pretty much what you need even for a walk of 2 to 2.5 hours.
On the way back we take out our plastic garbage bags and pick up the mess we find on the beaches.  Plastic bottles and plastic sheeting is the worst.  However there is a lot of other stuff that we find on the beaches and in the bushes that needs to be cleared up.
We walk out with about 5 big and five small bags of stuff.  I am at the back of the group and carrying an ornamental piece of driftwood that one of the ladies wanted to take home for the garden.

Our walk today was an 8km beach walk in fairly warm sun.  The heat is compounded by the reflection from the sandy walkway.  The degree of difficulty is also increased by the act of picking up trash and carrying that out while walking in soft sea sand.  So, despite the flat and reasonable easy walk of 2 hours; when we ended our walk we were all feeling a little frazzeled.

Kini Bay to Loris bay and past.  Starts off with a longish section on the beach.
Wide beach walks makes this totally worthwhile
A pathway leading down to Lauwries Bay (Loris bay>)
From here we are treated to this wonderful view
 The beaches of Lauwries Bay
Mikes house has been completely refurbished and looks quite stately
 The houses next to Mike
A view of Lauwries bay from the East Side.
Walking these pathways and the colourful flowers.
Again wonderful views of the rocks, seas and coves

Our halfway break for a snack (for me it is generally a banana and water)
Caren; Alan and Anne talk about important stuff.
Cleaning out shoes --  Lots of sand and small shells get into your shoes on these beaches.
Some of the rocks are a little tricky and slippery
walking past this old stone wall makes the hike quite special
Beautiful old stone wall and cottages on the pathways
Gasteria Anicacifolia.  Strange name for what appears to be a kind of Aloe but is in fact a Gasteria
Gasteria is an easy to grow succulent native to Eastern Cape.
