ALLY HAS HER VALEDICTORY FOR THE MATRICS OF 2015
MEIRINGSPOORT HALF MARATHON
ALLY IN HER NATURAL LOOK |
Ally has been working at her Matric Trials to ensure, not only that she receives a University Pass, but also that she does well in Matric to allow her a choice of careers.
And so it works out that the day after she finishes her matric trials Drama exam; she has to work on her Matric Dance activities. This includes the Dress -- fitting and refitting; Hair -- done and redone; Nails -- done and redone; Make up -- seemed to be okay first time. Shoes -- bought and then discarded and replaced with a second pair. Partner -- First time lucky with Ian Du Toit. He drove his Charles' Audi sports car to the function.
IAN IS ALLOWED TO DRIVE CHARLES' AUDI SPORTS CAR. SO VERY SMART --
BARBARA ALSO HAD HER HAIR DONE. SO THEY ALL LOOK SO AMAZING IN PREPARATION FOR A SPECIAL NIGHT OUT.
NOW THIS IS HOW TO BE AT YOUR BEST -- SMART BOY AND GIRL; SMART OUTFITS; SMART CAR AND OFF TO A SMART VENUE.
Ian had the car washed and cleaned and then it rained. So he went out and bought a cover for the car to ensure that it looked perfect on the night. Unfortunately Charles was still in JHB for work on Thursday evening.
Thursday 1st. I went out for my run but had to walk as my knee was just too sore to carry on. Then began the day that ended up with the Matric Dance. Ally to school; Fetch Ally; take her to the Dress Maker at the University in Bird st. Fix the dress; Take Ally to have her nails done; then to the Hair Dresser then to the Make up who also re- does her nails.
Finally Ally is completely ready for her dance and we meet Ian at their house. Here we have a glass of champagne and then Ian follows us to fetch Lene and her family. Then on to the Finestones house which we cannot find at first. So we arrive almost last at their house. We leave after some pics and then on to the venue in Kragga Kamma Road.
BARBARA; ALLY AND I AT THE FINESTONE'S HOUSE PRIOR TO GOING TO THE DANCE VENUE.
ALLY AND IAN ARRIVE AT THE CIRCLE WITH ALL THE ONLOOKERS CHEERING EACH COUPLE AS THEY EMERGE FROM THEIR CARS.
At the venue there is a complete log jam of cars. And there are so many smart cars! Porche; Audi; Mercs; BMW; Lamborghini; Camper; Old Beetles and combi's.. But this does not help as the entrance is narrow and there are simply too many cars. So I try to get Ian through by guiding traffic. It does not really help but at least gives me something to do while we wait an hour to be able to off load Ian and Ally.

The dance is due to open at 7 but we eventually get them into the dance hall at about 8.30. And then we leave them.
Ally and Ian will be at the dance until very late; then go off to Summerstrand where they will change to casual clothes before ending up at Humewood at the After Party.

Friday morning
We are up early to drop Barbara and Mia at the airport. They are flying off to Cape Town for the weekend.
Saturday 3rd. Drive to the beach for a run but my left knee is just too sore to run so I walk. Chris kindly walks with me. To Engen and back and then to Summies and back. Then I receive a phone call to say that I have a tour guiding assignment with Craig Duffield. I have to put aside all other activities (Lifesaving meeting). I have to leave Ally alone to sort herself out (which she does later in the day by riding to school on the Scooter for Drama Practice). I pick up the two tourists; Laura from England and Pauline from Belgium. Drive to Addo and take the two of them for a full day tour of the park. Fortunately the weather is great and we see a number of wildlife including a Black Back Jackal; Two Buffalo laying down in a wallow and some Elephant really up close.
BARBARA HAVING FUN WITH NICKY'S FAMILY IN CAPE TOWN MICHAEL; EMILY; ANNABEL AND TOM IN JERUSALEM |
Sunday -- I have my second assignment for Mosaic.
I am up early to wash and tidy the car. I collect Susan (German living in Switzerland and here to surf at Jeffreys) and Hanna (Gap Year -- spending a month at Kwantu). We have good sightings of Elephant -- up close. Also today we see a Mongoose on the top of a bush on the lookout. At the Restaurant we meet Craig as well as my Neighbours Keith and Alma. I make it home in time for Church. Unfortunately doing Guiding the past two days meant that I missed a Lifesaving Meeting on Saturday and both Nippers and LA training on Sunday. Meanwhile Ally coped well going to School on the Scooter.

SHOSHANA AND ZOE AT THE ZUURKOP LOOKOUT POINT |
Monday morning -- Dole shipments have come to a grinding halt. I sent off the last documents this morning. And fortunately was allocated an afternoon tour of the city with Mosaic -- Christina and Irene from Germany. I took them to the Fort; Donkin; St Georges Park and Settlers Park and then out to Recife to climb the lighthouse. Then to Sacramento. Barbara missed her flight so Ally was stranded so I had to combine some Personal stuff with tour guiding. I find that I am pretty out of it when I get home from these tours..
Tuesday -- wanted to run or at least walk but my knee is too sore to run and my legs are also hurting so turned around after one kay..
Tuesday 6th. Tried to run / walk -- Knees too sore. Craig phones me late to collect four "backpackers" for an Addo Tour. Shoshana and Zoe friends from Germany ; Orhan (Turk from Germany studying medicine); Chris from London (who also has SA Roots). We are most fortunate as we see a couple of Bull Elephants up close; Later in the afternoon we see Two Jackal and; just as we are leaving the park we see a Caracal.
LADY'S SLIPPER CLIMB |
DANIEL AND THE GROUP PAUSE TO ENJOY THE VIEWS ACROSS TO JEFFREYS BAY.
Wednesday 7th. Lady's Slipper Mountain climb with Daniel.
It is an awesome day and a group of 7 climb the Lady's Slipper from the West side.
Thursday 8th -- I am able to run again after a week of rest. My knee has been so painful that I have not been able to do more than a slow walk. But this morning was amazing as I was able to run at a slow steady pace through Target Kloof and back -- about 8k. I am now, again, looking forward to Meiringspoort.
Friday -- Barbara and Ally go to the shopping mall. I have a number of work and other errands to run. I have Daniel; Josh and Mia at home with me. Afternoon -- Lifesaving training. We focus on the Spinal Board in the water drill.
Saturday morning run from Hobie is a real pleasure. There is a large group of us to start off with. Michael and Susan cut short at the top of Walmer Boulevard. Ray's two girls training for Meirings; Then it is Neil; Shannon; Mozree who is going to run her first 21k at Meiringspoort; Nicole who started with the group last week; this will be her third 21k and she is going for a strong run / walk next week. Then we have the hardened group of ladies in Andrea; Kelly; Liesl & Ronel who know this route well. Margie joins us from behind telling us that we started early. I am not sure as I never have a watch and depend on others to call the time to leave.
NICOLE; NEIL AND LIESL ON THE RUN |
MARGIE DOES A LONG RUN -- 12K WITH US AND THEN OFF TO NMMU FOR A 5K EVENT BEFORE RUNNING HOME AT THE END.
KELLY AND ANDREA TRAINING FOR MEIRINGSPOORT. THEY ARE GOING TO BE IN FINE FORM FOR NEXT SATURDAY.
SHANNON AND HER FRIEND MOSLEE (RUNNING HER FIRST 21 NEXT WEEKEND).
NICOLE JOINED US LAST WEEK -- WAS LOOKING FORWARD THE WHOLE WEEK TO HER RUN WITH THE GROUP. SHE DID WELL TO STAY MOVING FORWARD FOR THE ENTIRE TRAINING RUN THIS MORNING.
We run around the Airport and then to Strandfontein road where we turn left at second avenue. The morning has been quite amazing; from the huge orange ball of the sunrise to a warm sun on the run. We run down 7th ave to the beach front promenade and then jog home from there.
It is such a good feeling to see Pat with her coffee and crunchies at Hobie beach. Quite a social gathering with Chris and Elmarie; Gerald and Ivor; And Rob Scott who is visiting in PE for a while. Ron and Lynn with the morning swim group. Megan Holder doing park run. John Allen; Tracey and Rolf who assist at Park Run.
MIA AND DANIEL -- OVERLOOKING THE BAKENS RIVER AT THE END OF MILL PARK ROAD.
NICKY TAKES HER FAMILY FOR A WALK IN RIEBEEK KASTEEL |
ALLY AND BARBARA GO TO THE SHOPPING MALL
MICHAEL AND JACQUI HAVING FAMILY FUN IN ISRAEL
The wind picks up and it is totally a miserable afternoon. Barbara has someone who is interested in buying our house so I take Mia and Daniel out for a while. We drive to the end of Mill Park road and then take a walk down the pathway where they toss rocks over the edge. This is the site of the filming of the classic movie "the Goods and the Bads" which Patrick made when we were teenagers.
Meanwhile Rugby World Cup in England goes on. SA's Springboks are top of their pool having opened the pool with a loss to Japan and then continued to win convincingly against Scotland; Samoa and USA. Scotland are second in the pool after a narrow win against Samoa. New Zealand are top of their pool winning 4 out of four matches. Argentina are second in this pool. Australia and Ireland have also won 4 of 4 matches. Wales are second in this pool and will face SA in the Quarter finals. England were unfortunately knocked out in the pool stages.
Sunday morning - Some of the lifeguards are doing a retest; starting with a 400m swim in under 8 minutes. John and I are trainee instructors and so trying to pick up as much as possible. It is also Nippers Open day. A perfect morning on the beach sees around 80 or more youngsters on the beach with a huge number of parents supporting the children. I am now in U12 age group with Tracy Gouws who is a swim instructor. She leads the training with some swims in and outs. The water is warm and I am loving the swimming. Once the water part is over, I leave this group and move across to the LA training with Varrin. We do some tube and board rescue training. The waves are huge and scary. Then on to CPR training. We have a good group including: Benji; Carley; Issy; Connor; Matthew and Matthew and Marika.
From the beach I move across to Grey Pool where I am assisting as a lifeguard as well as taking part in the Biathle. Also a good number of participants for this first outing of the season. Brian and Margie both take part. The weather has remained warm and a perfect day for outdoor activity. Meanwhile Mia; Josh and Daniel were at KB nippers - having a ball.
BRIAN FINISHES THE BIATHLE PRACTICE AT GREY SCHOOL.
I ENJOY THESE SHORT EVENTS. I AM ALSO PART OF THE LIFEGUARD DUTY.
Thursday morning -- there was an incredible thunder storm last evening. And pouring with rain this morning. Still Ally and her class go on with the pre valedictory fancy dress party at school. They meet at the Portugese club and after a huge amount of merriment they all march to the school where Andre van Staden in a Robin Hood outfit, leads them into the school grounds. It is pouring with rain, yet they have a huge amount of fun together with good support from their school friends.

Friday morning Lene in her vehicle and us in the bakkie leave for Meiringspoort. We stay the weekend at Kleinplaas where I have reserved 3 chalets. Nicky and her three children and Cathy with Saul and Blake arrive later. We braai before an early night. Leave Kleinplaas at 5.15 to catch the last bus to the start. Julia, Nicky and I are separated at the start but I take up my usual position under the start banner with Andrea and Melissa Dyer. We have a good run finishing strongly... This afternoon is World Cup Rugby: SA vs Wales which we win in the final minutes. At half time we have a quick party for Blake's 3 birthday.
Sunday moring we visit the waterfall before driving home. Meanwhile Lene takes Julia and children to the Croc Wildlife farm and do croc cage diving.
.
Monday 19th-- I have a tour with Jeffrey. We climb the Lady's Slipper from the sea side. Fortunately it is not too hot and we enjoy the outing. From there we drive to the Kragga Kkamma game park where we see a number of animals including the baby rhino. Finally we end with a bit of the City Tour.
THIS RHINO WAS ONE OF A GROUP OF FOUR WHICH INCLUDED THE BABY. SOME OF THEM HAD THE HORNS REMOVED
WE CAME ACROSS A HERD OF AROUND 15 BUFFALO.

ELEPHANT SEEN ON OUR NIGHT DRIVE IN ADDO. THIS ELEPHANT WEIGHS AROUND 4500 TO 5000KG AND IS A YOUNG BULL OF ABOUT 15 YEARS |
WE ENCOUNTER TWO LIONS ON THE TUESDAY AFTERNOON GAME DRIVE IN ADDO |
THIS MALE LION WAS WITHIN JUST TWO METERS OF OUR CAR. THE LIONESS HAD WALKED UP THE HILL AND HAD FLOPPED DOWN. IT WAS SO HOT THAT ALL THEY WANTED TO DO WAS TO LAY DOWN . |
Tuesday Morning I have some rubbish to collect before meeting two of Jeffrey's colleagues (Serma and Andrew) for an Addo Tour. It is an exceptionally hot afternoon and the plains are almost devoid of animals. We see just ONE Elephant bull the whole day but in contrast we see a male and female Lion. They are Close to the vehicle and we enjoy a half hour of their company. We finally return home after 7.30pm. Overall it was a good tour.

Thursday 22nd. I catch up on some admin. The Dole work seems to have completely dried up. Then in the afternoon I fetch Jeff and Selva at GM and we drive to Addo for a night drive. The drive is guided by Mpumi who is a subject matter expert on the local animals. However he does not have much chance to display the depth of his knowledge as we see just one Elephant as we leave the gates. Fortunately it is still light and we are able to take good photo's. From there we see Scrub and Spring hare; Kudu; Rooi Hartebees; Eland; Black Back Jackal; Genet; birds including the Blue Crane, Heron and the nesting Egrets (Tick birds).
MIA HAS A PODIUM PLACE AT THE CLARENDON PARK SPORTS DAY |
RUNNING JUST AS FAST AS YOU CAN. TRYING TO WIN ONE ANOTHERS HAND. |
I make good progress with my studies towards Western Cape guiding.
I SET OFF ON MY RUN LEG. I AM THE FIRST OFF THIS MORNING. ALMOST AN HOUR BEFORE THE NEXT TEAM OF RUNNERS GO OFF. IT IS A GREAT MORNING FOR A RUN IN A SLIGHT DRIZZLE AND AN EASTERLY WIND BEHIND ME. |
I am in the Tigers Team and our team members are: Aydn Wilson (Team captain); Geoff Roberts; Graham Nel; Tom D'Arcy and Tommy Satchwell who is not at the start but will join the team on the route.
I ask Tom to drive my car to the end of the first leg as I have to work today. I set off at 6am and I try as hard as I can to maintain a good speed. A few days ago I had noticed a slow tyre leak and had picked up a fishing hook on the tyre. Supa Quick had found a Screw in the tyre and had repaired it but this morning, just before Tom started to drive, the chaps noticed that the tyre was flat and changed it for me in record time.
THE ACHILLES RELAY TEAM CONSISTING OF CAPTAIN AYDN; GEOFF; GRAHAM; PETER AND TOM. TOMMY SATCHWELL WILL JOIN THE GROUP ON ROUTE. |
Finally I am able to hand over to Tom. We have a blue baton in support of Tom's Chelsea Soccer team (who later went on to lose the match today).
As I drove back I looked out for the next team -- Nothing! no one was running. I realised that the next team started nearly One Hour behind our team. The relay was not as well supported as 2014 but to me this is a great event and we should not lose it.
RESULTS FOR THE 2014 EVENT. 2015 is in BOLD
Peter Giddy 7.2km @ 36.04 This year I ran a 37.32
Robin Clarke 8.2km @ 58.36 (Subbing for Tom as his wife, Jean, was ill) This year Tom ran at 48.26
Geoff Roberts 8.3km @ 45.08 2015 Geoff ran at 48.59
Lindsey Pillay 8.2km @ 40.42 2015 -- Lindsey is on holiday so Tommy Satchwell ran in his place at 49.26
Graham Nell 8.3Km @ 49.52 2015 Graham ran a 54.51
Aydn Wilson 8.6km @ 42.02 in 2015 Aydn (our Captain) was again our anchor and ran 43.59
Total team time 4H 32m 01s Our Total time for 2015 was 4; 43; 22
Adyn records the fact that our team was the slowest with the most time on the road.
I have to leave the team and rush home to shower and eat before getting to Supa Quick at 8am for the tyre to be repaired again. Once that is done I have to get to a beach front hotel to pick up my guest. We drive to Nanaga; then turn left on the N10 past Patterson. I had understood that the next turn off was over the Olifantskop pass and we continue along this road. However we had missed the turn off which is on the Patterson side of the pass. Exactly 10k after Patterson is a sign reading: Kromme River where we should have turn off. It is then about 22km along this road to the Elephant Back Experience.
WE SET OFF ON THE BACK OF THE ELEPHANT |
MY GUEST, ALKESH SHAH, ON THE ELEPHANT; THESE THREE ELEPHANT HAVE BEEN BROUGHT IN FROM THE KRUGER NATIONAL PARK AND ARE NOT PART OF THE ADDO ELEPHANT HERDS. JUST THREE ENORMOUS BULLS.
THE ELEPHANT DIG UP SOME SAND AND WASH THEMSELVES WITH SAND AND WATER.
Finally we arrive at our destination 45 minutes late. The Elephants turn into the gate just after we arrive and the previous group dismount and the two of us have our turn to ride the Elephants. It is a short ride and we are soon off the animals again. The men on the Elephants call themselves Elephant Handlers and not Mahuts as they are in Asia (Thailand). We then are able to stand next to the Elephants for a Photo before being taken to the river where the Elephant are having a mud bath. Finally we are taken to a feeding area and shown how to feed them either into the trunk or directly into the mouth, all the while avoiding being struck by the two powerful tusks.
We have a hamburger lunch and then press on along this same road towards the Suurberg Hotel area. I was concerned that this road would be really rough on the car but it turned out to be okay. It took us 40 minutes of very slow driving.
We registered for a hike at the gate and then did an hour walk along the ridge of the hills. We saw a few Rooi Hartebees as well as a colourful array of plant life and magnificent views.
We then took a ride through the Addo game park where we saw some Elephant in the distance; plus a number of buck and other animals. During our ride we listened to the Semi Finals of the Rugby World Cup with SA lost to NZ by a slim margin 20 to 18.
LUMA AND SANDRINE AT THE SPEKBOOM HIDE -- SANDRINE SAW ANOTHER TWO ELEPHANT ON THE HILL TO THE EAST. We had earlier startled a Buffalo as he crossed the road. We then saw this same Buffalo drinking in the Spekboom Pool. |
LAURA AND JULIA (GERMANY) SPOT THE ELEPHANT; BUFFALO AND WARTHOG AS THEY COME TO DRINK AT SPEKBOOM HIDE. |
SMALL GROUP OF THREE BUFFALO ON THE HARVEY LOOP
WE FOUND TWO MALE LIONS RELAXING IN THE SHADE ON THE HARVEY LOOP TOWARDS THE END OF THE DAY
WE WERE FORTUNATE TO SEE THESE TWO LIONS -- LUMA HAD SUGGESTED THIS LOOP AND IT TURNED OUT TO BE A GOOD DECISION .
Sunday Morning I collect Julia and Laura from Hippo and Sandrine & Luma from Lungile. I take them for a game drive during which we see over 20 Elephant including a small herd right next to the car and crossing the road in front of us; A herd of about 100 buffalo; many Black Back Jackal; And towards the end of the tour we come across two Male lion. This was a most successful tour.
Monday -- Transfers -- Laura and Julia to Jeffreys Bay. Swimming with Mia and Joshua at Newton Park pool in the afternoon. I am now up to 2000m of freestyle.
Tuesday -- Complete some tour guiding study; Collect the name badge.
This week Barbara causes quite a stir in the animal loving community. Barbara finds out about some Egrets (Tick Birds) that are nesting near to the airport. The trees in which they are nesting have been covered in nets. This means the adults cannot get to the chicks nor the eggs and so they will all die.
Barbara puts a notice on facebook to say -- lets do something about this. A couple of people respond on facebook but at 8.15 the following morning when Barbara gets there -- she is on her own.
Fifteen minutes later others start to arrive. In the end there are about 40 people around these trees, Pulling down the nets and trying to capture the chicks and eggs. Barbara puts this whole lot into the back of her Bakkie and then finds out that the Press and TV cameras are there and that they want an interview.
Barbara has not bathed and has a net around her when the camera man trains on her. So that evening and the following morning we see her on TV news being interviewed about this whole incident. She has saved about 45 chicks and a similar number of eggs.
But the story does not end here: We take the birds out to the Bird Haven -- African Dawn. Here a group of volunteers gather around the bakkie in burning heat of about 40 degrees and take these birds one by one to the rehabilitation section. We have been here before and kind of know the drill. It is so hot and we have little drinking water in the bakkie so I suggest to Barbara that we should leave.
This bird place is about 5km along a dirt road near to Gamtoos river. So we head off and are going up a hill when the car loses power. There is no gear. I try all kinds of things including reverse but nothing! So here we are on this dirt road about 4kays from the tar road and about 60k from PE in the burning heat. And I have now managed to straddle the road. We are parked sideways on the road.
I am thinking we will have to call the mechanic from PE. Probably about 2 hours for him to get here. Then have to tow the car back to PE and then there is the actual repair. R5000 at least for this outing!.
Another vehicle comes around the corner. A man gets out and I introduce myself. He is Vuyo and asks to have a go. He finds the same as me -- Nothing! No gear and nothing will get the car going back or forwards. We open the bonnet and he asks me to push the clutch and then exclaims --- OK! What do you mean Ok? I think.
Vuyo is a genius. He has immediately found the problem. There is a linking thing that has come loose and he tells me that this is due to wear and tear. But don't worry we can fix it. Another man, Percy, arrives and we find a bicycle inner tube which he cuts and attaches to the loose part and then the other side to the engine and says; "Off you go".
Vuyo then tells me to NOT go to a mechanic but to go and buy a new part. I drive back to PE amazed at the helpfulness of these two Good Samaratins. We stop at the parts shop where the assistant sells us a new part and fits it himself -- All for R65. Today we were blessed by good fortune.
Ally is busy with her Matric Exams. I am trying to complete my Western Cape Assignments and study.
A HERD OF ELEPHANT SEEN FROM THE SPEKBOOM HIDE |
THIS HUGE BULL ELEPHANT WAS IN MUSK AS EVIDENCED BY THE DRIPPING FROM A GLAND BETWEEN THE EYE AND THE EAR. HE GAVE THE TOUR BUS IN FRONT OF US QUITE A FRIGHT AS HE MOCK CHARGED IT. |
Friday 30th. I have a tour to Addo with Amy and Charlotte. We have no luck at all going around the Gorah loop but then we take the Hapoor Dam loop and are rewarded with a herd of Elephant both in the bushes and at the Spekbook Hide. This has been a really successful tour but to top it all we come across something that few South Africans have ever experienced.
I see a couple of small birds playing up (broken wing display) on the road and immediately realise that there is something worrying them. Then we see the most amazing and beautiful Boomslang on the side of the road. This snake is luminous green with large eyes and can clearly see us. He has caught a chick and the parents and family are trying to distract the snake by displaying a broken wing.
THE BOOMSLANG HAS A SLOW ACTING VENOM THAT DOES NOT DISPLAY IMMEDIATE SYMTOMS BUT IS HIGHLY TOXIC AND MUST BE TREATED WITH ANTI VENOM EVEN THOUGH THE PERSON DOES NOT FEEL THE EFFECTS IMMEDIATELY. THEY ARE SHY SNAKES AND WILL NORMALLY MOVE AWAY FROM LARGER ANIMALS AND HUMANS. |
We are left quite breathless and shocked by what we have just witnessed. But we also have a sense of awe at the eventuality of the fact that there are predators and that there are prey and what we saw was simply a daily occurrence in the wild of the Addo Park.
We end our tour seeing a huge bull elephant in Musk. We are able to see the fluid flowing from a gland between the eye and the ear.
Saturday 31st.. A beach front run of about 10k with Derrick and two of his friends and Joan who I struggle to keep up with. End the run by showing all the motorists coming to the Big Walk For Cancer to park on the beach grassy area. Meet up with Mark and Carol Cooper and Tim and Heather Shaw who are at the beach with Brink from Pearson doing Triathlon Training.

WEDNESDAY HIKING GROUP -- BUSH FOUND ON THE LADY’S SLIPPER IN
OCTOBER 2015
FONTEINBOS OR FOUNTAIN BUSH.
Psoralea
pinnata is an
erect shrub or small tree, which grows up to 4 m high, with blue, lilac and
white, pea-shaped flowers which bloom from October to December. The
"P" in Psoralea is silent and the name is pronounced as if it
began with the "s". The common names fountain bush or 'fonteinbos'
refer to the fact that it grows along streams and in wet places. There are 130
species worldwide with 50 species occurring in southern Africa.
Description
The leaves are compound and are composed of several pairs of leaflets and a terminal one. The leaflets are 50 mm long and 3 mm wide and are aromatic when crushed. The pea-flowers are borne at the ends of the branches or in the axils of the upper leaves.

Although
the flowers are seldom very showy, they are delicate and charming on the
slender branches. White-eyes are often seen probing after insects attracted to
the flowers.
Distribution
Psoralea pinnata is a fairly widespread species growing from the Clanwilliam District south towards the Cape Peninsula and then eastwards and northwards through George and Knysna to the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Swaziland and Mphumalanga.

Derivation
of name and historical aspects
One of the outstanding characteristics of this genus is its strong scent, and the resinous, dark or transparent dots which cover the leaves. The genus name Psoralea is based on the Greek word 'psoraleos' meaning warty or scurfy, in reference to the dots or warts on the bark. The specific name pinnata (Latin) refers to the pinnate leaves. Another distinctive characteristic is that there is only one seed in a pod.
