WEDNESDAY HIKING

SCHOENMAKERS KOP  -- FYNBOS TRAIL.
RETHA'S TRAIL -- A SECTION OF 500M OF ORNAMENTS AND FLOWERS
Today our trail starts at the Canon at Schoenmakerskop.  We walk behind the houses along Aretha's trail where there is  a small wonderland of flowers and ornaments for all to enjoy.  The local residents have taken time to create this little bit of paradise for their own community.  Ornaments; Figurines; Old bits of wood and pottery; Beautiful flowers and indigenous plants make up a walk of around 500meters.

We continue along the pathway and cross the main road leading back to town. And then behind the East Side of Schoenmakerskop to behind the Sappershoek section.  And then we are on the Fynbos Trail.  This Trail takes walkers to the Radio masts and Beacon.  About half way to the Tea Stop a group of 14 of the walkers decide to take a short cut back to the cars.

20 of us continue along the top pathway not really knowing how far we will be hiking today. Finally we reach the Radio Masts.
It is here that we stop for a snack; Fruit and water before continuing on the bottom section of the path.  But we then realise that the Port Jackson Willow has so overgrown over the path to make it almost impenetrable. Robin leads the way and bundu bashes his way through the growth until we are out in the open again.

We walk up the hill and then find ourselves back on the pathway that leads back to Schoenies.
Today our hike was about 10km and 2.5hours of walking.  One of the longer hikes. I was pretty tired after the walk and ready for tea and a relaxed afternoon.
