March /// Friday 1st. --
Barbara is back at home after a month of visiting Dawn in Canada.
A bit of welcome overnight rain.
Theresa and Brian on Addo Safari with Malcolm
City Cultural and Township Tour with Alan and a Group of lecturers and students from America for Larry Geswindt
Malcolm takes Di and Theresa for an Addo Safari
Alan and I have a Group of Students for a City Cultural / Township Tour
Saturday morning starts with an 8k run with Lindi; Adrienne; Chris; Elmarie and Adele
Saturday 2nd.  I have an Addo tour with Claudia and Mattheus who used my new Wedsite to contact me.   Jim and Nell from Canada and Peter Joseph family from UK -- Rick; Stacey and baby Elsie
Emily -- probably about 3 years old.. Today she turns 13.  Part of this beautiful family of ours.
Sunday morning.  I was not able to run the Sportsmans 15k on Saturday due to work so I joined the group running the Helpers Run.  Here is Rodney; Lesley; Natasha; Andrea; David and JoAnne.  And two other girls..
Andrea and I ran start to finish.  We are more or less evenly paced helping each other to keep going.  But with less than 5kay to go we take a wrong turn.  We are not exactly sure how it happened but when we approached the last water station we realised that something was amiss.  So at the end when we reached the top of the last hill, Andrea checked our distance and saw that we had only done 14kay.  So we decided to do an extra loop which, as we crossed the line, registered 15kay our official time was 1.29.    2018 I ran a 1.31 for this event.  And 2017 I managed a 1.25.  This is a tough hilly course where you have to be mentally fit to run up every one of the short sharp hills.
Nell and Jim at the Kragga Kamma Restaurant... Cheetah feeding time.
Cheetah wait in anticipation of the meat to follow.
Sunday morning  After the Helpers Run I pick up Nell and Jim and we do the Kragga Kamma game park.  Unusually we do not find Rhino. But we do find a number of animals including Giraffe; Buffalo; Zebra; Antelope; Wildebeest and even Lions.
Monday 4th.  Swimming 1500m with Megan. I take Jim and Nell to the Airport. And a number of Dole Documents to be handled today.
Tuesday -- Running 8k with Adele; Mike and Stefany.
Water Hole near to Hapoor we come across these magnificent elephants right next to the car
Brian (Handy Man living in New York and Danny (Waiter at a Top Restaurant -- the Nomad Hotel)  -- On holiday in SA for a while
A crowned plover sitting on her nest .... Danger.... right next to the road where cars could easily damage the nest.
Wednesday 6th.  Addo with Americans... Brian and Danny .... staying at Road Lodge.
Thursday morning I receive an urgent call to take these three ladies to George... Ou Baai Golf Estate.  They are Sisters in charge of a Dialysis process and are going to George (Herolds Baai) for a weekend conference.
I leave from Greenacres at 12.00 and it takes me exactly 4 hours to reach Ou Baai ... Non Stop.
Thursday 7th.  Running 9km.  Target Kloof.  With Stefany; Liesl; Susan and Adele.  Windy and almost did not go out to run. But with the west wind blowing against us going downhill and with us as we ran back up Target, it turned out to be a good morning.
Afternoon drop off at Ou Baai and then return home immediately..... I have to drive through heavy rains on the way home.... Two stops. Coffee and toilet and I get home just before 9pm.
The most unusual sighting of the day is the Nyala at Arizona.
The Birthday  inboy receives a hug from his wife.
Susanne and Rolf are Introduced to Monty the Cheetah.
Friday 8th .... I wake up exhausted... It has been raining in the night. Rolf and Susanne for Addo ... It is Rolf's birthday.  And their last day of their holiday.  I take them to both Addo and Kragga Kamma so we have a great day filled with animals.
15k run with Kelly; Jo Anne and Natasha.  It had threatened to rain earlier but we had a beautiful morning with no rain.

As we enter the park we see three big bull elephants on the road next to the car.
Today, with the rain, we see more beetles that normal including this Manticora or Tiger Beetle -- a fast running beetle with pronounced mandibles used by males for copulation.
Mariana had a great day seeing Two Jackal and a variety of birds.  With close up of elephants which always makes the day.
Saturday 9th morning...  As I get  up it is pouring with rain.  But shortly thereafter the rain eases up and I decide that I should run.  Meet up with Kelly; Natasha and Jo Anne at Kelly's house.   I jog there and we do the Moffet Circuit... With the extra that I do I make up 15k.
I pick up Mariana from Jikeleza and we spend the day in Addo --- The rain makes it difficult to see all of the animals but we have a reasonably good day with Elephants in the first 10 minutes.
+
We find this Kudu on Harveys.  It has long toe Nails or hooves but seems to manage okay

Sunday 10th.   Still rain in the air.  I pick up Midge and Robert and Lothar and Christa ...... from the Seabourn Sojourn for an Addo and a Kragga Kamma Safari.

Tuesday.. At the Hospital at 7am.  Preregistration done.  Barbara drops me off at the ward at 8am.  I finally get to the Pre Operation room at 11.30.  There are some urgent patients pushed ahead of me and I finally go into theatre at 1pm.   Barbara fetches me at about 2.30 and I am home by 3pm.  All for a 10 minute procedure.   But an uncomfortable and sometimes painful night.  Pain Killers help in the end.
Wednesday 13th.   Swimming 1600m with Megan.  She gives me a bike event ticket which I in turn give to Kim.

My Group today in Addo... Laya and Laura... Twins... enjoying a Gap Year before starting their studies. After SA they go to Thailand.  Jose and Eliana are from Brazil.. Jose is a retired vet ,, working for the state as a Meat and produce inspector.
Today we see a number of Jackal ... This one is at Hapoor.
Friday evening... I put on a Braai and Lene & Josh stay for supper.
Saturday 16th Morning.  I am up at 3.00am to leave by 3.30 with Ingrid; John (45 year old birthday boy) and Benita for their Addo 76km trail run which starts from Kirkwood -- Addo Kabouda Gate at 5.30am.  I make a mistake and go all the way through Addo Village, adding about 30kay to the outbound trip.

.Our Sedgefield holiday told in Pictures.
 Our cottage
Joshua and Daniel were quite comfortable sleeping in the tent.
Chris and Estelle brought their caravan.
 Chris connects his gas cooker.
Relaxing in the tent for meals.
 Chris puts on the Braai.
Werner makes Rooster Brood.

Meanwhile Adrienne is in England with Matthew.
 Nicky sets out the table.
Werner; Chris and I at the Braai
Looks like we are saying Grace.
Inside the cottage -- playing 30 seconds.
Nicky took the family to see the Map of Africa lookout point in Wilderness.
This is the Map Of Africa.
Nicky and I run to the Beach from the camping site.  A hilly road of about 3km
From the lookout point you can run about 10k to Buffels Bay.
Star was a star.. Running all the way with us.
 Information boards.
 Dunes information.
Werner has a new pair of shoes.  Chris should really not be running.  So the two of them walk the 3km to the beach
 Old Mans Beard Lichen
 Old Mans beard.
Looking across the Groenvlei

This is where we had our holiday at Lake Pleasant off the Groenvlei on the East side of Sedgefield.
On the Tuesday morning we join Youart for a 10k run from this point to Wilderness. This is the second half of the Outeniqua 21k
At the Silver River with Youart. Nicky, Werner, Chris and myself.

at the T Junction ... We have now completed the tough hills of this run.. Mainly downhill from here.
Bundu Supersave.. From here we have about 5k to go.
 Wilderness lookout point.
Lunch at PhiliPhili in Wilderness.  A Beach restaurant.
Nicky and Barbara enjoying their beverages.
When we get home -- Daniel and Joshua got stuck into cleaning the Combi.
They made a really good job of cleaning with a solid wash out.

Four day in Sedgefield.
Sunday 24th.  Joshua and Daniel have been staying over in our house for the past two days as Lene was able to take a short break in St Francis with her sister.  We pack up and are on the road early.  With just one stop for a coffee at Jeffreys Bay we arrive in Sedgefield and find our camping area at Lake Pleasant where Nicky and her family had arrived a day earlier.
It has been raining for the past day and continues to rain this afternoon so we are able to relax and enjoy chatting.  Daniel and Joshua, with minimal help from me, put up their tent and pack all their stuff in it.
This evening we braai with Chris and Estelle.  The evening is games such as 30 Seconds and Uno.  Later the children play poker and Blackjack with Lucky Beans as chips.

Monday morning.  Nicky gave Werner a new pair of running shoes so is up and about early and ready for a walk to the beach.  Nicky and I run the hilly route while Chris and Werner walk it.  Nicky and I have hardly run this month so it is good to get a 7k run this morning.  During the day I receive a message from Youart Tose who lives in Knysna that he will be running the last 10k of the Outeniqua 21kay event which is due on 4th May.  So we agree to meet him at the Wilderness hotel the following morning.
Meanwhile the cousins are having a great time.  Each one doing what they enjoy.  They play table tennis and pool and simply running around together.

Tuesday 26th.  Barbara agrees to drive so Chris; Werner; Nicky and I drive through to Wilderness where we meet Youart.  He had arranged a Taxi but it is not neccessary so we all go up the Whites road to the top of the hill and then right at the Bundu Cafe to the T Junction where we turn left down to the Kaaimans River Bridge.  We decide that this is one hill too many so we turn around and start our run at the top of this hill.
The first part of the run is down hill to the Silver River and then back up to the Tea Junction and then a short section to the Bundu cafe.  We are then on the dirt road for the final 5 kay of our run with these steep falls off to the right and magnificent views of the Sedgefield Bay below.
Back at the Hotel and we are all ready for a breakfast.

We make a breakfast at the cabin... Eggs; Banana and Bacon on soft rolls .. followed with a coffee.  Now we are ready for a bit of relaxation.
The rest of the group go out on the Groenvlei for a paddle on canoes;  Barbara and Nicky have a ridiculous boat that simply goes around in circles. Everyone seems to have had fun.  Some of the group then go and play some tennis.  Later this afternoon we all go to the beach restaurant in Sedgefield called PhiliPhili I think.  It is one of these places that Nicky and Werner find where the tables are on beach sand. So bare foot is the way to go. We order some snacks and beverages.  A lovely chilled afternoon.
A real active day which again ends with a Boerewors Braai.

Wednesday 27th.  We are surprised to see that Josh and Daniel have packed up all their stuff and again need minimal assistance to dismantle the tent.  I explain that we cannot pack it finally into the bag as it is damp and this could cause rot if we did not first dry it out at home.
Nicky takes her family for a Segway adventure at Wilderness on the way home.
Once we are home Josh and Daniel get stuck into washing the car.  They do a wonderful job and so the following day, after an Addo Trip, I have an easy job of washing for the following day's tour.

Blake is learning the skill of this high wall climbing.
Nicky discovers she needs reading glasses.

I pick up Eric and Veronique from Le Lyrial ... Ponant , cruise ship for Steve Sara of Akorn.
Pumba on Vukani
Veronique and Eric in Addo... One of my best days -- On Ngulube we see a bull elephant chasing Tom. Dick . and Harry as they are hunting Warthog.
After I drop Eric and Veronique I pick up Michael and Louisa for a City Tour.  They are more than satisfied as we do a whirlwind Two Hour tour before I drop them off back on the ship. Le Ryrial.

Thursday 28th.  Start the morning with a 7kay run with Mike; Chris and Lindi;  Andrea and her group are a bit too quick and leave us.
Steve Sara from Akorn Tour gives me a tour from the Le Lyrial cruise ship with Eric and Veronique in Addo and then I pick up Michael and Louisa for a City Tour.
Friday29th... I start the day with a 1000m swim.  I am extremely tired and kind of laze through the morning. Later I pick up Morges and Ann Marie for a Day in Tsitsikamma -- Doing the Blue Duiker and the River Mouth trails.
Arial and Mark are at Spekboom Hike.  Arial (American) is a teacher in Dubai while Mark is in Marketing in Beruit. Lebanon.
Arial and Mark at Jacks for lunch.
Rebecca; Rachel and Katie got hold of me via whatsup and so we ended up doing this Kragga Kamma Tour. They are three teachers in Abudabi. UAE> Now going to hire a Camper and driving down the Garden Route and to Cape Town.
Saturday 30th.  Pick up Mark and Arial for Leigh for an Addo Safari.
I receive a whatsup message and so later I pick up Katie; Rachel and Rebecca for a Kragga Kamma Tour.
Team Kim and Peter Strike again.
The start of the Baywest 30kay MTB trail cycle.   I get to about half way and my knee is so sore that I had to push my bike back up the hill and then get a lift back with Rob Rudmans daughter, Julie who is now part of the Cyclo Pro Bike shop together with her husband. They are Race Organisers.
Sunday 31st.  Kim and I have entered this Baywest Cycle Event.  I have heard that there are cycle tracks at Baywest and am keen to see what they are about.  The event today was MUCH tougher than the Herald 30kay cycle tour. Single track; rocky and soft sand; tough up and down hill.  Kim did well to complete the event while I had to pull out during the event due to a sore knee.

While we were in Sedgefield; Ally was on the Orange River Canoe Trail.  She picked up a rash.

After the Sedgefield Holiday.  Nicky takes her family on Segways at Wilderness.
Saturday 30th.. Werner, seems to be a reluctant participant in the Parkrun.
Saturday 30th... Barbara and Lene walk the 5kay trail at Crossways while Josh and Daniel do the 10kay.
The 10kay turns out to be a really tough event going right down into the valley.  Here they return totally exhausted.
In Israel.... Reynard join Jacqui and Michael for a week.

March 2019 turns out to be another busy month in the life of our various families.  April --- Here we come!

NOZIPHO BELL.... INTERNATIONAL BOXER  Who I met in August 2017 while she was training in 9th Ave Walmer up and down the Dodds Farm gravel section.

Nosipho Bell.  Training reps up the hill with her coach.  She is a Pro Boxer and a champion. Lightweight = <60kg
Herald newspaper of 29th August 2017:
Port Elizabeth's Golden Girl, Nosipho Bell defended her SA junior lightweight title for the third time by a knockout against the formed number one contender in Limpopo on Saturday 26th August. An enormous right hook by Bell in the 8th round saw Muleba drop to the canvas, losing the bout by a TKO.
Coach Ntante reported: We were fortunate that Bell's fitness was on par and we managed to outbox her in the last four rounds.
Bell is the only SA Champion to hail from the Eastern Cape. She wants to defend her title one more time before contending for an international fight.
NOSIPHO BELL I found this report in the Sowetan 28.2.2017
Nosipho Bell, right, on her way to the SA junior lightweight title against Nomampondomise Xotyeni last year. She defended her title against Sthandiwe Ngcobo in PE on Friday.

The main bout was the national lightweight championship between champion Nosipho Bell from Walmer in Port Elizabeth and Sthandiwe Ngcobo from Mandini in KwaZuluNatal. Bell outpointed Ngcobo over 10 rounds.

And today -- 15th March 2019... I find this article:
Port Elizabeth’s finest female boxer, Nozipho Bell, will have another go at a world title when she fights Unathi Myekeni for her World Boxing Federation featherweight belt in the Women in Boxing Tournament at Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, on March 23.
This comes after the Walmer Township boxer lost the WBO female world super featherweight championship title to Poland’s Ewa Brodnicka in October last year.
The 29-year-old South African junior lightweight champion said the fight against the East London-born 36-year-old boxer was an opportunity to redeem herself.
“I know people will be questioning my change in division,” Bell said.
“I don’t see that much of a difference because I’ll only have to drop one kilogram for the fight. That won’t be difficult for me.
“When I heard the news that I will be fighting for the WBF world title I was very excited because this is going to be my first fight this year.
“Plus it’s another world title fight after my loss in Poland.
“This fight is very important to me because it is going to open doors for bigger titles and it is an opportunity to redeem myself after losing to Brodnicka,” she said.
“I know Unathi, I have seen her fight but my focus is not on her.
When I heard the news that I will be fighting for the WBF world title I was very excited because this is going to be my first fight this year
PE boxer, Nozipho Bell
“I don’t like to study my opponents. My focus is on me and I am looking to win this fight.”
Trainer Caiphus Ntante said: “We know it will not be easy fighting against Myekeni because she has been around for a very long time.
“But I think the age factor will be to our advantage.
“We will make sure that we use this opportunity to make PE proud once again because at the end of the day we need boxing to go back to where it was in previous years.”
Langa Tsotsobe, who manages Myekeni, said his fighter would be coming down from Johannesburg to PE early so that she can acclimatise.
“From our side we are ready and prepared. She knows that she has to defend her title.
“We are waiting for Nozipho to come and show us what she has got.”
Promoter Mbali Zantsi said the tournament was part of the international world women’s month celebration.
She said the purpose of the event was to celebrate women’s social, economic and political achievements and also to call for gender equality.
Zantsi said this was not just to demand decency and respect but was about recognising and cherishing the bravery of women across the world.
“We are saying let girls be girls. Let them do what they want to do and whatever they want to aspire to be, let them be,” she said.
“We are not saying we want to be men. We are still embracing the women in us but then we are saying let us play as hard as we work.”
The all-women boxing event will feature Myekeni vs Bell as the main bout with the supporting bout between Melissa Miller and Thema Zuma.
Other fights will be between Nomampondomise Xhotyeni and Nompumelelo Sibiya and Raizel Mohamed and Nomazithini Ntyambo.
“We will also have male bouts as curtain-raisers,” Zantsi said.
“We hope that this will not just be a once-off event but a programme that will be sustainable and we’ll be able to see results after three to five years.”
