I collect the two guests - Dirk and Ricardo - from their B & B in Summerstrand.  We drive to the Tsitsikamma forest. Along the way we pass the Gamtoos River; Kabblejous River; Jeffreys Bay and Humansdorp.  We see the development of the Wind Turbines and begin to enjoy the beauty of the Eastern Cape bushveld.

On either side of the road we see the horror of the Black Wattle that is invading the farms. This tree was brought to South Africa from Australia and cultivated to assist miners in shoring up their diggings.  Since then it has spread throughout the country and is now unstoppable.  The tree has the effect of draining the land of water supplies, killing off local species of plant life and spreading at an alarming rate as the yellow flowers and black seeds are distributed by birds, monkeys and wind.
However we also see the beauty of the Watsonia; the Protea and other natural plant life that makes up the fynbos.

RICARDO IS FITTED OUT WITH THE HARNESS AND THE PULLEY

The drive from Port Elizabeth to Storms River is not much more than 90 minutes and we are in time for our Zip Lining Canopy Tour.  We are taken into a room where the guide shows us a taste of what we are to experience and gives us a bit of background.  We are then kitted out with a harness, helmet and pulley rope.  An open vehicle takes us to the start of the Canopy Tour.  It is a short walk and an introduction to Yolo (the guide) and Asanda his assistant. Both of the men are chirpy and pleasant throughout the rides.  Yolo, in particular, has a flowing chatter as he explains the way that we will proceed and the safety features.
RICARDO AND DIRK HAD A WONDERFUL TIME ON THE ZIP LINING.
At all times we are connected to the safety cables as well as the Zip line on three points. We are nervous but secure in his confidence. At each station Yolo has a story and explanation of what is happening both on our tour as well as the nature that surrounds us.  There are 10 stations and we travel a total of 900 meters in the air.  Along the way we see Knysna Loerie with their distinctive red wings. We also see the Real Yellowwood and the Outeniqua Yellowwood trees. Yolo points out trees that are 400 to 500 years old.
ZIP LINING BETWEEN TREES IS A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND A LOT OF FUN
THE TREES AND BRANCHES MAKE AN AMAZING BACKGROUND TO OUR TRIPS BETWEEN PLATFORMS.
All to soon the Canopy tour is over and we have a long walk back up to where the vehicle will collect us.  We unharness and return all the equipment. Then we have a Toasted Sandwich for our lunch before driving back to Port Elizabeth. We stop off at the Storms River bridge where I refuel and the two guests enjoy a walk on the bridge.
